BECOMING A MEMBER
"So in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."
WHY BECOME A MEMBER?
We are excited that you are interested in joining the St. Luke church family! Your first step will be to attend a new member orientation class. Contact the church by email at email@example.com, or call the church office at 901-756-8850 to get started.
HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?
Membership is an important part of our Christian faith as it commits us to the body of Christ, the church. At St. Luke, we ask for a commitment to membership because Christ calls his followers into community.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION?
New members orientation sessions are held two to four times a year. The class is held on a Sunday afternoon - an informal time to learn about St. Luke and to share a meal with other new members and meet some current St. Luke family members too. You'll hear Pastor Cliff offer an introduction to Christianity, the Lutheran Sacraments, how St. Luke is organized, the many opportunities St. Luke offers for you to get involved, and a tour of the building. New members are asked to sign a membership commitment to support and disciple other new members. New members are received as members the Sunday following the class during one of the worship services.
WHAT IF I AM ROMAN CATHOLIC OR BAPTIST OR PRESBYTERIAN OR...?
Lutherans recognize and accept the rite of baptism, confirmation, and marriage performed in all Christian churches. We hope that through the course of the new member orientation you will discover the similarities between the Lutheran faith and your background. This is one way we realize the unity in Christ we confess together. We also hope that you will come to appreciate the distinctively Lutheran aspects of our tradition and theology.
